About Ellen Neuwald
Ellen escaped from Germany in November 1939, coming to the US via Norway with her first husband, Hans Weingerow (changed in the US to Jack Grove). She married her second husband, Alfred Neuwald, in 1940. She worked in Hollywood as social secretary to Irene Selznick, George Cukor, Ingrid Bergman and others, accompanying Bergman to Italy for the filming of "Stromboli." during which Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini fell in love.
In the 1950's, she assisted the Broadway producer Saint-Subber before becoming an agent specializing in handling young writers and directors. Her clients included David Rabe, Deborah Eisenberg, Mel Marvin, and John Herbert.
