About Ellen Wienholt
Ellen's date and place of birth and baptism is recorded in a red leather pocket book, along with the birth dates and places of her nine siblings. This record was probably kept by their mother, Sarah. She was born on 3rd January 1828, at Penycoed, St. Clears. She was baptised at St. Clears on 22 February and vaccinated in Caen.
In the 1871 census she was recorded as having been born in Surrey in 1829, and was now living in Brighton, Kemp Town, as was her sister Mary.
In the 1901 census she was the head of the household at Merley House, near Wimborne, and it states she was born at 'Pont-y-coed St Clease', Carmarthenshire - which translates to Penycoed, St Clears. (This no doubt explains why one of her brother Edward's properties in Queensland, Australia, was called Penycoed Downs, while another was called St Clears). She had six servants at Merley House and no other persons listed apart from her brother William who was visiting.
The London Gazette http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/29084/pages/2020/page.pdf provides her date of death. She was lately of "Therapia," Branksome Park, Bournemouth. Her will was proved by her executrices and nieces Mary Waveney Bowen, of Kempey Lodge, Parkstone, Dorset, and Sarah Wormald Hodson, of 23, Brunswick-square, Brighton.
