About Ellender Millsaps

According to Ancestry.com,Ellender King Millsaps was born in Ireland, 1724, and died in 1793 in North Carolina, USA. It listed her husband as Robert Millsaps and that they had 7 children: James Madison; Thomas; Ellen; Edward; Mary; Moses Taylor; and William.

According to http://patrickminges.info/Mandy.html, Eleanor - also found elsewhere as "Ellender", "Erlander" and in Robert's will spelled as "Allendar" - had 10 children: JANE; Ellen: Thomas; James Madison; Edward: JOSEPH; Moses: Mary (who married Thomas Farmer); ROBERT; and William (the capitalized ones weren't mentioned in the previous paragraph.) Mandy's genealogy stemmed from Jane (who had an illegitimate son Jesse Millsaps and who later married a Samuel Yates. Jesse married a Mary "Polly" Hyder and had 14 children, including a Triphena who continues Mandy's lineage.)

My direct line stems from Thomas.

Of note: Jane's daughter-in-law's father was Michael Hyder. Mandy's genealogy stated this about him: Notes for Michael Hyder: He signed the Halifax Petition of 1776. He was a member of the Watauga Assoc. He was in Ft. Watauga with his family on Jul. 21, 1776, when the Cherokee Indians attacked the fort. He was with John Sevier in almost all his expeditions against the Indians and the British, including the Battle of Musgrove's Mill in SC Thickety Fort and Cedar Springs. He was asked to stay behind and defend the fort when the men left to fight Maj. Patrick Ferguson at the Battle of King's Mtn. in SC. The militiamen had not been away long before Sevier received word from Hyder that an Indian party was on their way from the south to attack the settlement. The overmountain men headed west and met the war party at Boyd's Creek near presend day Sevier Co., Tn. just west of Knoxville. The Indians were soundly defeated. He had one of the first powder mills in the area. Powder from the mill was used at King's Mtn. His will dated 20 May 1790.

This is the first incidence of mention of Cherokees and Millsap-relations together. It warrants further study.
