About Elmer Norman Calef
Elmer Norton Calef was the son of Cutting Stevens Calef and wife Martha Howard Paine. Elmer was born July 25, 1834 in Washington, Orange County, Vermont. He moved for a short time to Providence, Rhode Island, then went to California about 1855. He worked in the gold mines for a time, then moved to Lane County, Oregon in 1858. He purchased a farm in Lane County in 1860.
Elmer married Sarah Naomi Harlow, daughter of Oregon Pioneers Mahlon Hall Harlow and wife Frances Burris Tandy, on March 31, 1863. They raised twelve children on their Lane County farm.
Sarah died in 1899 in Lane County from blood poisoning. Elmer died February 2, 1890, in Lane County. Both are buried in Gillespie Cemetery , Eugene, Lane County, Oregon.
