T939 Page Local Service Company Successor To Distinguished Line of Militia Took the place of Spanish-American, World War units Service Company, 133rd Infantry, is an outgrowth of old j Company Second Iowa Infantry. organized and mustered into the service by Adjutant General H, H. Wright in December, 389C. Wilson G. Heaion was declared captain on the day of the company's muster. At the outbreak of the Spanish War in 1898, The company was called out with the rest of the Iowa National Guard. After a month in camp at Des Moines, the Second Infantry was converted into the Fiftieth Iowa Infantry and as such mustered into Federal service May 17. 1898. The regiment received orders to entrain for Tampa. Florida, with Cuba, as its destination, bat the orders were later changed, and the regiment never left the united States. It was mustered out of service Nov- ember I, 1898. Following the war a new company was formed in Fairfiid. with Charles Magill in command. This company was designated Company Fifty-fourth low! Infantry. Captain Magill resigned shortly after the formation of the company and his place was taken by Lieut. E. E. Lucas. On June 20, 1916, the Company was ordered out to Camp Dodge for service on the Border. Its station on the border was at Brownsville, Texas. On January 15, 1917, the Company was mustered out at Des Moines returned to its status. March 26, 1917, Company "M" was called back into service for the World War duty, commanded by Capt. William C. Smith, First Lieutenant Robert L. Fulton and Second Lieutenant Elmer E. Fleagle. The Company was redesignated Company "M- 133rd Infantry, August 5, 1917. and served in France as such.
