About Elsa Bernfeld
The woman doctor Elsa Bernfeld was born on 01.12.1881 in Leipzig to the world. She was the daughter of Friedrich and Johanna Gutfreund, born Groedel. Elsa Bernfeld was married to the physician and chemist Dr. Isidor Bernfeld.
Bernfeld then founded the chemical factory Dr. Isidor Bernfeld & Co. in Leipzig Plagwitz. The Bernfeld had two children: Werner (1905) and Peter. The family lived in the Lortzingstraße 15
Peter Bernfeld went in 1935 to Switzerland and later to the USA. Isidor Bernfeld died in 1937. The son Werner traveled from the following year to the UK. As a result of the racist "law available via the Mietverhältnisse with Jews" from April 1939 Elsa Bernfeld was forced to move to the Jewish house Nordplatz 7. She was deported on 01.21.1942 to Riga, then murdered on either Auschwitz or Treblinka and there.
