public profile
Elsie was born in the midst of the Spanish influenza epidemic in 1918. They didn’t expect her to live so the gave her the initials L.C. For her aunt Leena Chadwick Cooper (Hilda's brother Mitch's wife). Hilda and Elsie were so sick but an American Indian woman who lived nearby took care of them and nursed them back to health. She rubbed something on their chests, wrapped her tightly in a papoose and laid Elsie in front of the hearth of the fireplace to keep her warm. So her true name is L.C. Sharpnack. But when she was in 2nd grade her teacher forced her to spell out her name and told her that her name was not LC it’s Elsie. From then on she went by Elsie.
