ELVA R. WHITAKER
Mrs. Elva R. Whitaker, 94, of 926 Payson Ave., died at 11:58 a.m. Thursday (November 7, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.
Born February 8, 1908 in Adams County, Elva was the daughter of Charles Samuel and Lucy M. Schmalshof Gallaher. She married Foster Giles Whitaker on December 12, 1927 in Hannibal, Missouri. He died April 24, 1985.
Elva enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing Bingo. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
Surviving are three sons, Russell Whitaker and his wife Carolyn of Yorkville, IL. and Gearold "Buck" Whitaker and Samuel Whitaker both of Quincy; four daughters, Maurine Baugher and her husband Warren and Lois Bange all of Quincy, Myrtle Friedhoff of Caseyville, IL., and Glenna Daugherty of Taylor, MO.; 29 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Gallaher of Payson; three sisters, Mary Fischer and her husband Jonathan and Anna Bradley all of Quincy, and Pauline Whan of Lewistown, MO.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lucy Susan Whitaker; a sister, Mabel Mitts; and five brothers, Charles, John, Kenneth Dale, Bill, and Russell "Doc" Gallaher.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy by the Rev. Ron Cox. Burial will be in the New Cemetery in Payson.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
