INGEBRET MAASJO Ingebret Maasjo was born in Stange, Norway in 1820. He married Inge Vistad, also of Stange, Norway. They left for the United States in the spring of 1867, coming directly to Lanesboro, Filmore County, Minnesota, where they lived for two years. In 1869, they, with several others, came by ox team to Trondhjem Township, Otter Tail County, making the trip in four weeks. In 1873, he homesteaded eighty acres ( the East half of the Southwest auarter of Section 20, Erhards Grove Township). He was one of the organizers of School District No. 17, and was a charter member of the Bagstevold Lutheran Church. In 1883, he purchased 160 acres of land in Section 2 of Norwegian Grove Township. Ingebret Maasjo died in 1905, and his wife in 1911. There were five boys in the Maasjo family as follows: Thomas, Simon, Ole, Christian, and John, and two girls, Karen and Emma. Thomas Maasjo moved with the folks to Norwegian Grove Township, and later purchased 160 acres of land in Section 32. On May 9, 1876 Thomas married Karen Trosvig, who was born in Stange, Norway, and came to the United States with her folks at the age of fifteen. Three sons were born of this union, of which two died in infancy. The surviving son, John T., married Martha Stadum of Trondhjem and they have three girls and one boy. John died in 1921. Thomas Maasjo died in 1933, and his wife, Karen, on September 3, 1937. Ole and Simon Maasjo purchased a horsepower threshing machine in 1876, and threshed grain on the prairie farms west of Pelican Rapids for years. Gulbrand Dunham bacame a partner in 1877. John married Miss Milla Julsrud of Norwegian Grove Township in 1896. Emma married Mr. Poss of the firm of Carr and Poss of Pelican Rapids. Simon, Ole, and Christian married and moved to Fingal, North Dakota.



1855 moved from Stange to Romedal (Opsalbakken farm) with family.
