About Emelia Wilhelmina Carlson

Emigrated with her parents and family to Phelps County, Nebraska June 17, 1878. According to my Aunt Ruth: in some records her name is spelled with a leading "A" instead of an "E". (Spoken names were often misspelled back then, however.) Gossip was that her parents, the Samuelsons, did not get along well so Sam built her a little house on the corner of his property and moved her there to live alone. He saw to it that she had groceries every week and that she had what she needed. She was 24 and Sam 40 when they wed, so there is logic to this story.
