Engagement announcement (The Boston Transcript, Oct. 8, 1910): Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin H. Ticknor of Harrison Avenue, Jamaica Plain, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Emeline C. Ticknor, to James Melville Hunnewell, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Frothingham Hunnewell of 289 Beacon Street. Mr. Hunnewell is a Harvard man, class of 1901, and is now practicing law in this city. He is a member of the University and Oakley Country clubs. Miss Ticknor has two sisters, Miss Caroline Ticknor and Miss Edith Slade Ticknor, and her brother is Benjamin H. Ticknor, Jr.
The Boston Post - March 19, 1911 Added to the long list of April brides…. is Miss Emeline Ticknor or Jamaica Plain, whose engagement to Mr. James Melville Hunnewell of Harvard, ’01, was announced some time ago. The wedding will be in St. John’s Church, Jamaica Plain, on the afternoon of Thursday, April 20, and will be largely attended. Miss Ticknor is an attractive, brilliant girl, with much distinction of manner, and a great favorite. Her sisters are Miss Caroline Ticknor, who writes so charmingly, and Miss Edith Ticknor, and her brothers are Mr. William Davis Ticknor, who married Ella Wattles of Canton several years ago, and Mr. Benjamin H. Ticknor, Jr. The late Howard Malcolm Ticknor, the eminent musical and dramatic critic, was an uncle. Mr. Hunnewell is quite as well placed in the world of society as is his fiancee. He is a nephew of Miss Alice Farnsworth of the Vendome, of Mr. and Mrs. James Means of Beacon Street and of Mr. and Mrs. William Farnsworth of Beacon Street and Dedham. Mr. Hunnewell is making an excellent place for himself among our young lawyers and is a man of the utmost promise. Miss Ticknor will have no bridesmaids. A reception for the immediate families will follow the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents.
The Boston Traveler, April 20, 1911 A wedding of social prominence was solemnized this afternoon when Miss Emeline Cushman Ticknor of Jamaica Plain was married to James Melville Hunnewell, Harvard ’01, in St. John’s Church, Jamaica Plain. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Thomas C. Campbell, rector, assisted by Bishop Parker, a cousin of the groom, and the Rev. Dr. Shearman. The church was decorated with lilies and palms. An added note of color was given by glowing azaleas. The bride wore an exquisite gown of white satin, trimmed with point Venise lace and had a large pink hat faced with black, trimmed with pink ostrich plumes. She carried Scotch heather and roses. The reception at the home of the bride on Harris avenue, Jamaica Plain, was for the immediate family only, owing to recent bereavements. The best man was Sidney Lane Beals, a classmate of Mr. Hunnewell. Both bride and bridegroom have distinguished Massachusetts names.
