Born in St. Louis on 30 Oct 1792, Emilie was the daughter of Charles Gratiot and Victoire (Chouteau). On 15 Jun 1813 she married John Pierre "Cadet" Chouteau, the son of Jean Pierre Chouteau and his first wife Pelagie Kiersereau who at the age of nineteen had become acquainted with his family's business in fur trade and after his father's death, took over the operations.
Emilie was the mother of Emilie Chouteau who married John F.A. Sanford; Julia who married William Maffitt; Pierre Charles who died in his infancy; Charles Pierre who married Julia A. Gratiot; and Benjamin Wilson Chouteau. She died in St. Louis on 24 Aug 1862 and her husband's death followed not long after on 09 Sep. 1865.
Note: Most sources indicate she was born in 1792, but headstone indicates 1974.
