About Emily (Fely)
The family called her Fely..short for Ophelia.
Since her mother died young (about 26) her father , Mr. Simmons, asked his sister, Frances, to come live with them. She consented and brought her own 2 children (Alice and Johnnie) with her.
When Fely was 19 a widower that lived near came to see her one day. He brought a letter along with him and as soon as they were seated he handed it to her. It was a letter he had written, a proposal. Fely could not keep from laughing and he was very angry at his perfect nice proposal letter being made fun of so left very upset. He was no less than 70 years of age. It was about this time that Fely met a very handsome man named Emmett Akers. He and his brother Will would play for dances. Emmitt would play the guitar and Will the violin.
Ophelia's health failed her shortly after Ellen's birth and for years off and on she was confined to bed. In 1913 (when Adrian was 13 and Ellen 7) Ophelia went to the Temple Sanitarium. She had some type of operation and returned home and her health improved.
