About Emily Jane Gray

Emily Jane Williams was the daughter of Bishop Leonard Williams and Sarah Wanklyn.

She married Charles Gray, a widower. They eight children and lived at Waiohika, Gisborne.

Marriage Notice

MARRIAGE
GRAY— WILLIAMS.— On the 26th instant, at the Church of Holy Trinity, Gisborne, by the Ven Archdeacon Williams, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Williams, Charles Gray of Waiohika, Poverty Bay, to Emily Jane, eldest daughter of the Ven. Archdeacon Williams, Gisborne. [5]

She built the current house at Waiohika after Charles's death in 1918.

The original Waiohika Homestead was built before 1900, and Mrs Gray had a new house designed by James Augustus Louis Hay, built in 1926 in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie houses. [4]
