Emily Rebecca Mercer

GEDCOM Note

Personal knowledge of Julia Midgette: Wife of Morris McDaniel was Rebecca Mercer.

I found her on the census records as Emily R. Mercer. I searched Messer will records and was fortunate enough to find a will written by James Messer naming an heir as Rebecca McDaniel. Later land transactions confirmed Emily Rebecca to be the wife of Morris.

James Messer's will was written August 30, 1875 and probated in 1878. The probate record gave his wife's name as Caroline. The will also gave the names of their chidren.

In the 1880 census, Morris and Emila R. live in the Trenton township with their daughters, Elizabeth who is 5yo, and Abbie who is 4yo. Also living with them is Morris' 47yo mother Penelope and a 19 yo male identified as brother, C. Mercer. At first, I thought this was James Columbus, but he is found elsewhere in the 1880 census with his mother, Carolina and sister Keziah. There is no C. Mercer named in James' will.

On June 2, 1890, the four heirs of the divided land, including Morris and Rebecca sell the timber rights to P.M. Barber

According to 1900 census, Rebecca had given birth to 11 children, only 7 living. One of those deceased was Abbie; others unknown.

Rebecca is dead at the time her son Clen marries Myrtle White in 1907 according to their marriage license.
