About Emily Rice
Emily Stratton was the daughter of Calvin Stratton and Gabrilla Johnson. She was born July 19, 1813 in Bedford County, Tennessee. She died after 1858 in Kentucky.
She married (1) John Henry Ramey, son of William Ramey and Anna Salmons, on March 15, 1846. Emily's marriage to John Henry lasted two years. It most likely ended in divorce, as he had children by other women after the date of her marriage to Samuel Rice. John Henry's daughter Serilda is often believed to be Emily's daughter, but Serilda was born several years before John Henry and Emily's marriage.
Emily married (2) Samuel Rice, son of John Rice and Patsy Fleming, on August 16, 1848, in Johnson County, Kentucky. It was a second marriage for both. Emily and Samuel had three children. Some sources show Emily's death as early as 1837. This is incorrect, as her last child was born in 1858.
