About Emma Brenner

Leah Kreinik Jacobowitz, As I Remember, 1962, page 70 " I have very pleasant memories of Louis' family, especially Mama Emma Brenner. She was an ardent worker for the Home, for Clara de Hirsch as well as other organizations, and knew everyone; staged annual card parties for the Home with the help of her devoted daughters. She was a large woman, usually sat on the same bench on the Boardwalk, passersby greeting her and stopping to talk; like a queen mother"

Judy Mester Church, December 27, 2011 "Oh boy...the picture in this email brings back sharp memories. It is indeed a picture taken at Marty's Bar Mitzvah (bar mitzvah? - don't know re capitalization here). Emma and Max Brenner were my dad's (Louis) parents, but Max died the year that I was born (1935), so I never knew him. Emma, my paternal grandmother, was called (by Dick, Marty, and me) Grandma Brenner - funny, from one side it was Dudu and the other side the more formal Grandma Brenner, but I guess that says a lot about the relationships, too. Grandma Brenner died when I was nine years old, so she's not in this picture, and neither is Uncle Robby. I'm not sure of the order of birth in that family, but there were five children, Robert (Robby), Alfred (Al), Bertha (Birdie), Anna (Honey), and then Louis (Louie). The picture is of the Brenner side, and Grandma Brenner died when I was nine, so she's not in it, and Uncle Robby isn't in this, either, but I don't know why, since I believe he was still living at this time. He was a very interesting man, and I'll be happy to tell you all I know about him, but that's not what you're asking now, so I'll end here. Happy New Year to you and Linda, and the boys, too. Love, " Judy Mester Church
