About Emma Ester Deutsch

Edith Phillips (Deutsch) the granddaughter of Emma Esther wrote a fascinating family history that has been well circulated among her descendants and other relatives. She speculated on the father of Emma saying that Emma was probably the daughter of Josef Gins of vienna, the founder of a well-known publishing firm. This is incorrect.

The father of Emma is Rabbi Akiva Gins Schlessinger. When I was in Jerusalem in 1990, I visited Emma's grandson Walter (Akiva) Deutsch. He showed me a family tree that his father Dr. Samuel Deutsch (1884-1940) had created. Samuel, the son of Emma Esther's identified Emma's parents as "R. Akiba Gins Schlessinger" and "Bele Deutsch".

Samuel identified Akiba's father as "Simche Bunim Gins (Oberrabbi in Mattersdorf)" and he named Rabbi Moses Ginsa and Gitl Eger as the parents of Simche.
