About Emma Haider

NDPDI died 05/09/2016 in Morton County, 96 Years; born 03/21/1920. Residence - Morton County.

Emma Haider, 96, of Mandan, North Dakota, slipped peacefully from this world into the arms of her Lord on May 9, 2016. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.

Emma was born March 21, 1920, in Shields, North Dakota to Jacob and Marie (Bauer) Wolfe. She was the third of seven children.

Growing up Emma assisted many farm families with babysitting and chores. She went to grade school in the Shields area as well as in Valley City, North Dakota and Wadena, Minnesota. Emma returned to high school at Freda, North Dakota High where she graduated in May of 1938 as class Valedictorian. Emma enjoyed playing basketball and softball in high school.

On June 14, 1939, Emma and Anton (Tony) Haider were married in McIntosh, South Dakota and had three children, Linda, Gary, and Dennis.

Emma and Tony lived in the Shields area until moving to Mandan, North Dakota in 1950. She worked doing home and personal caretaking in Mandan while raising her family. In 1955 she managed an apartment building until 1974 when she went to work for Corral Sales and then for El Rancho Homes until retiring in 1981. She was also an accomplished seamstress and crocheted wonderful items for her children and grandchildren. Her baking was loved by all her family and friends. Who could forget her famous peanut brittle!

Emma made friends easily. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and many other games that involved getting together with friends. With her sister Emily, new adventures were always in the works. She also filled out her days volunteering for Mandan Golden Age, First Lutheran Church, the Moose Club, and the Eagles Club where she received the Mrs. Eagle award in 2008. Emma especially enjoyed traveling around the country on bus trips with her friends, visiting many different states.

We will forever miss her kindness and her gentle heart. Emma was a strong woman of faith. She loved the Lord and spent time with Him in daily prayer and meditation. She was an example to those of us she left behind, and we will be forever thankful for the years we had with her.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Linda Haider, Copper Center, Alaska; her two sons, Gary (Linda) Haider, Bismarck, North Dakota; and Dennis (Cindy) Haider, Mandan, North Dakota.

Emma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tony in 1997; her siblings, Alex, Gottfried, Henry, John, Emily Upham, Marie Herzog; and a grandson, Cavin Haider.
