DEPORTATION ab Kassel 09. Dezember 1941, Riga, Ghetto

TODESDATUM 28. Juli 1944

I wish I knew my great oma Emma, I believe we would have enjoyed each other's company, though she was 90 years older than me, from a totaly different generation. There are many things I do not know about this courageous woman, who raised 3 girls alone after her husband died in World War 1. She was a talented cook, maybe I got it from her?! She put her daughters first, which I of course understand, and because of her wisdom they were able to escape Nazi Germany. I know my Opa, Kurt Wertheim, tried his best to free her and bring her to Palestine. He was greatly furstrated for not having the funds to help, knowing what is going on in Europe. Partly, due to her, I feel it is my legacy to learn about our family. My Journey brought me to a text from a friend telling in a short sentence the horror of her deportation from Riga to Auschwitz in 2 November 1944. With tears in my eyes and a lot of love to a brave lady, I'm sending you a kiss of love, great Oma Emma and I promise you, I will learn more and you will never be forgotten. If it weren't for you, there wasn't me... You could not be saved, but you gave us our lives, and part of you lives in each and every one of us. You sacrified it all and it wasn't for nothing. You were shamefully deported from Germany, not considered as a human, let alone a citizen, but your grand daughter, her dughters and grankids are all German citizens and Israeli too. I am sure you'd be proud of us, as I am proud of being part of you. May you rest in peace, and may the story of the wise and brave Emma Heiser be told in our family for ever.
