About Emma Mitchell
Emma was born in England, she was only one year old when she and her parents and baby sister Eliza sailed from London to South Australia, arriving at Port Adelaide on the 8th August 1849. She lived at Mount Barker before moving to Victoria around 1854. Emma grew up on the Goldfields near Clunes where she married a Cornishman Richard Mitchell on Christmas Day 1866. On her Marriage Cert. it states that Richard was 26 years old a miner and she was 20. Neither had married before and both lived in Clunes. After ther marriage the couple lived in Clunes where four of their children were born. In 1878 they moved to East Charlton where they lived the remainer of their lives (at Buckrabunyule and Barrakee) and their last four children were born.
Emma is buried at the Charlton Cemetery her headstone reads:
"In loving memory of Emma Mitchell a loved wife and mother who departs this life June 28 1914 aged 67 years " I know that my redeemer liveth". Also out beloved father Richard Mitchell called home February 17 1927, aged 92 "And he was not,for God took him"
