About Emma Phillips
GEDCOM Note
Gravestone in family grave at Wanborough. Had the first of her 5 children at aged 30. Had one son and 4 daughters. My great grandmother. Emma on the 1871 (aged 4)census was living at 59 Parsonage Lane, Broughton with her widowed father George and siblings Mary A, Morgan and Eliza. She was the youngest. father was a carpenter as shown on Emma's marriage entry. Eliza appears in 1901 census living with Emma and edwin in Stratton, perhaps looking after baby Edwin John/Jack (my grandfather) who is 1 week old. The 1881 census is very interesting. Emma now 14 is recorded as being at the Asylum for poor orphaned girls in Ashley Hill Bristol, the parishes of St James and St Paul. THis suggests that father George died sometime between the two censuses. Note in 1891 Emma was living with Mary Arman (widower in Hungerford) . she is a dressmaker - is the old box I have of hers once used for this purpose? With her Uncle Stephen (I Think or cousin), Mary married Thomas Arman in 1866 in Hungerford see ancestry website. perhaps she met Edwin through Mary - as Thomas Arman was probably somehow related to Edwin? By 1901 census Emma has been married 2 years 4 months and has just given birth to 1 week old Edwin. Eliza is staying with her at the time. emma arman http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=99a4242e-f8c8-4072-8922-f...
