Biography

Enfield (aka Enford) Green was born on March 31, 1716 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of John Clarke and Ann Nancy (Hill) Greene.

Enfield married James Matteson on March 2, 1738 in West Greenwich, quoting Rhode Island Vital Records: "3-169, Matteson, James, and Enfield Greene, of John; m. by John Spencer, Justice, March 2, 1738." They had six children including: Uriah, b. Jan. 23, 1738-9; Silas, b. Dec. 10, 1740; Ann, b. Feb. 8, 1742-3; Sarah, b. Aug. 8, 1746, d. Oct. 19, 1750; and James b. Aug. 9, 1748, d. Sep. 23, 1750. James's wife,

Enfield, passed away on August 13, 1749 in West Greenwich, Kent County, leaving James a widower with young children. She was age 33 at the time of her death.
