About Ensign Daniel White

Daniel White 2/23/1661 –12/18/1739

Daniel was the son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth White. He was born in Middletown Connecticut on the 23rd of February, 1661.

In March 1682 (or ’83) he married Susannah Mould of New London Connecticut. They had seven children – all boys – and all born in Middletown.

Daniel must have lead a very quiet life as I could not find much about him. One can deduce that since he lived in Middletown all his life, he probably took care of his father’s land as well as his own. (This seems a likely explanation for his remaining in the background – perhaps, too, his father’s very busy public life convinced Daniel hat he would himself much prefer to live a quieter life. In rereading his father’s busy life , one can see that he must have been gone a great deal of the time and thus relied on his sons to do most of the work at home. This is all speculation on my part, I hasten to add.)

In his will, Daniel’s father gave him, “the house, barn and other buildings he now live in and is possessed of in Middletown, with 6 acres of upland adjoining; also one third of my meadow and swamp at Wongunk, and also one third part of my neck and wet meadow; all this besides what I have formerly given him by deed. “ We also mentioned that his sons Daniel and Joseph should supply firewood for their step mother.

Daniel died on the 18th of December, 1739, in Middletown
