About Ensign Edward Adams, I

http://henryadamsofbraintree.com/id3.html

EDWARD ADAMS (son of Henry Adams and Edith Squire) was born in 1629 in Kings Weston, Somerset, England. He died on 12 Nov 1716 in Medfield, Norfolk, Massachusetts, USA[s6]. He married (1) LYDIA PENNIMAN (daughter of James Penniman and Lydia Eliot) in 1652. She was born about 1632 in England. She died on 03 Mar 1676 in Medfield, Norfolk, Massachusetts, USA[s7]. He married (2) SARAH TAYLOR on 06 Jan 1710. He married (3) AGIBAIL CRAFT date Unknown. She was born in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA. She died in 1707.

Notes for Edward Adams and Lydia Penniman: In 1977 Benjamin Parker Richardson Jr. entered a caveat against the identification of Edward Adams as the husband of Lydia Penniman [TAG 53:37-38], since the will of her father does not name her at all and the will of her mother merely calls her Lydia Adams without naming her husband, and an alternate claim that the wife of Edward Adams was a Lydia Rockwood or Rockett had been made by Abner Morse. We do know from the mother's will that Lydia did marry an Adams, and a search of Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 reveals no other Adams this early with wife Lydia. The only evidence in favor of the Rockwood identification is the choice by two of the children of Nicholas Rockwood of Edward Adams as their guardian. This could happen for other reasons than an Adams-Rockwood marriage, and so Edward Adams is retained as the husband of Lydia Penniman. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Clifford L. Stott has discovered the origin of James Penniman in Chipping Ongar, Essex, and has also provided evidence and careful arguments for the identity of the spouses of James Penniman's daughters [TAG 71:12-18].

"Edward Adams was born in England. He was baptized at Kingweston, 19 April 1629. He immigrated to New England with his parents, Henry and Edith Adams in 1638. He went with them to Braintree, Massachsetts and there is first mention of him in the will of his father in 1646. On 3 May 1654, Edward Adams and his step father, John Fussell were admitted freemen of the Massachusetts Colony, their names being next to each other on the roll of that date, (Mass. Col. Records, vol. 4, part 1, page 460). About 1654 Edward Adams settled in Medfield, Massachusetts, where his brothers Henry and Peter had already located. In 1689 he was appointed Ensign of the Medfield Company. He served as representative to the Massachusetts General Court in the years 1689, 1692 and 1702. Edward Adams' first marriage was to Lydia Penniman (baptized in Boston, 22 February 1634/5), daughter of James and Lydia (Eliot) Penniman. Lydia had fourteen children and died in Medfield, 3 March 1675/6. His second marriage was to Mrs. Abigail (Craft) Ruggles-Day (born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, 28 March 1634) on 7 December 1678 in Dedham, Massachusetts. There were no children by this marriage. The New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston has established that Edward Adams was the Great, Great Uncle of President John Adams. "
