CIVIL WAR VETERAN. SERVED WITH CO E 165TH PA INFANTRY
In 1860, he was a laborer living in Menallen Township, Adams County, and stood 5' 6" tall with black hair and brown eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Adams County October 16, 1862, as a substitute for Samuel Plank, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 7 as a private with Co. E, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg. His last name is spelled "Rise" on the company register but correctly on the company descriptive list.
He married Elvina Walhey in 1867 and fathered Ezra E. (b. @1867), Harry M. (b. 03/23/69), Cora A. (b. 05/13/73), and Cora's son,Paul T. Edwards (died in infancy). In 1890, he lived in Menallen Township, Adams County. It is likely that his middle name was "Plank."* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 1 2021, 0:22:03 UTC
