“One of Anna Root’s brothers, Erastus, had a very unhappy wife because he was putting off chinking the logs of their cabin in Chillicothe, Illinois. “Records of Olden Times” says that “Their home was very airy and open with no floor, no door and no chink between the logs.;” She informed her husband that the holes must be stopped up or the Indians would steal some of their children.”
