About Erma Lillie Boggs Addis

Erma was an incredibly good cook, especially of meats. She worked in her father's butcher shop and learned how to slaughter and prepare all types of meats.

She cooked squirrel, pheasan, deer, and all types of animals.

When it came to relatives, she had her favorites, and it was clear who they were.

She had long hair that went down to her waist. It is said that she never cut her hair in her entire life.

When she was in her twenties, she move out to Kansas to marry her cousin's husband Aaron Addis after her cousin's untimely death. It seem it was at first a marriage of convenience; Erma went to take care of Aaron's two children. At that time, a woman could not live with a man without their being married.

Donna remembers hunting mushrooms, weeding, and pick wild greens with her "Grandma A." Melanie also remembers hunting mushrooms with her. Erma taught Donna to cut old socks. They would cut the sock toe and then tear the sock in a spiral until they had a single strip of fabric which they would collect in a ball. They would use this fabric to crochete rugs.
