About Erna Raasch
Erna's father operated a saloon in Waukesha county in the early 1900s. Menu: German foods. Occasionally, Al Capone and his gang would stop in for a meal, and Erna met him.
Erna lived in New Berlin, WI (Calhoun Rd., south of I94), and commuted to downtown Milwaukee to her job (bookkeeper for several companies over the years). Erna loved to drive. When she was a teenager, she would drive to Hartford, WI to dance and listen to the Big Bands playing at the Schwartz Ballroom. She lived in her single-family home 'til her early 90s and even bought new furniture and redecorated the house in her early 90s because she felt she should enjoy her surroundings and keep things updated.
At Erna's request, Larry & Bobbi dug up some of her ferns and planted them in the backyard of their Fox Point home, where they proliferated as much as they had in Erna's yard.
