About Ernest Francis Burke
Ernest Francis BURKE was born on Dec 7 1887 in Washington Township, Iowa.(5) He was born on the family farm home just west of Indian Creek. 1900 Census record shows Dec. 1888 as the birth year. He was baptized on Dec 25 1889 in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Atlantic, Iowa. (24) He was confirmed on May 26 1900 in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Atlantic, Iowa.(25) He Purchased farm in 1911 in Anita (Grant Township), Iowa. He was a buy, sell, and feed livestock, mostly cattle and hogs in 1912 in Atlantic (Grove Towhship), Iowa. Received a lot of experience running the family farm while his father's health was failing. HO always proudly told of taking the family cattle to Chicago when he was but thirteen years of age, riding the caboose with other stockmen, seeing the cattle fed, watered, and sold, and returning to Atlantic on the passenger train. He offered partnership with Robert Wilson and later with E.C Dorsey.
Burke and Wilson purchased livestock in a wide area around Anita and they drove them by saddle horse and Motel "T" car to the stockyards in Antia where they were loaded by rail for Omaha, Chicago and Valley Junction. In the 30's, Wilson returned to his frat. Ray joined with Ernest in buying hogs and cattle in Anita and they were joined by Eric Osen. He Purchased home in 1916 in West Anita (Grant Township), Iowa. He Lived Anita, Iowa in Nov 1929 in Anita (Grant Township), Iowa. He died on Dec 15 1960. He was Catholic. He was ill with Diabetes. He was educated old Atlantic Business School in Atlantic (Grove Towhship), Iowa. He was awarded th papal Medal of Saint Sylvester from Pope Pius XII in Anita (Grant Township), Iowa. He received the medal in recognition of his contributions and efforts to the Catholic Church and the community.
