Ernest Truman Givan, 83, died unexpectedly Wednesday of an apparent heart attack. He was born in Warner Valley, Lake County, Oregon, in 1892. He was a longtime resident of the Bonanza area where he ranched until moving to Eagle Point eight years ago.

On Oct. 11, 1919, in Yreka, Calif., he married the former Joanne Driscoll, who survives. Other survivors are sons, Bob Givan, Ventura, Calif., Gordon Givan, Portland; Pat Givan, Richland, Wash.; daughters, Marilee Hynes, Carmichael, Calif., and Nancy Friar, Medford; brother, Dallas Givan, Fort Bidwell, Calif.; also 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joanna Frances Givan, 91, a longtime Bonanza High School teacher, died Thursday, February 2, 1989 in Eugene.

Mrs. Givan was born in Bonanza to early settlers, Dan and Grace Kuhn Dirscoll.

She graduated from the University of Oregon, Eugene, in 1918. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

She was married to Ernest Givan in 1919 after he returned from military service in World War I.

They ranched in Bonanza and raised a family there.

Mrs. Givan had a master's degree in speech from College of the Pacific. She taught school for many years, retiring from Bonanza High School after teaching there for 26 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilee Hynes, Phoenix, and Nancy Givan, Medford; sons, Gordon Givan, Portland, Robert Givan, Santa Paula, Calif., and Patrick Givan, Redmond, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and two sons, E.T. in 1924 and Danny in 1958.

From the effects of throat infection that puzzled physicians, Ernest Truman Givan, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Givan of Bly, died in Medford yesterday at 11 a.m. The boy had been sick for two weeks and was taken to Medford 10 days ago.
The funeral cortege will leave Whitlock's Mortuary tomorrow morning at 9:55 a.m. for the Sacred Heart Church, where a bendiction will be offered by the Rev. Father A.L. Loeser. From the Church the funeal procession will proceed to Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where the body will be interred. The child was born in Salem, Feburary 6, 1922, and was much loved by residents of the Bly district and all who knew him.

Beatiful floral offerings and a crowded church characterized the funeral services held Friday morning at 10 o'clock for little E.T. Givan Jr., age 2 1/2 years, who died at Medford early this week from a septic ssore throat. The Rev. Father Loeser offered a benediction aided by the Sacred Hear Choir. Following the services the funeral cortege proceeded to Mt. Calvary where the body was interned.
