About Ernst van Gelderen
Ernst Van Gelderen's early childhood is the subject of "I Missed My Train," a documentary currently in the editing and post-production phase, by Seattle filmmakers Elke Hautala and Michael Kleven. The film revisits his experiences as a hidden child in Holland during World War II.
A native of The Hague, Van Gelderen was a small child when his Jewish family was deported into the Nazi concentration camp system as part of the Final Solution. A Dutch underground rescue and resistance organization quietly secreted him off a train, saving him from certain death, and housed him with a gentile family until his own parents could return for him after the war.
