About Esau Parratt
1851 living with grandmother Elizabeth Wilkinson nee Deadman.
THE BAT AND BALL. Dating back to the 17th Century, the Bat and Ball is also situated in the Lower Bourne, nestled in a valley alongside the Bourne Stream. Esau Parratt, one of the many Parratt’s in the village, was the licensee in 1865. He was followed in 1899 by a Mr. Beazley. There were many changes of publicans in the 20th Century. In 1874 there was also a beer retailer in the Upper Bourne. The Bat and Ball, a free house, retains its traditional character under its present licensee Kevin Macready and maintains a good reputation with local residents, especially for its food.
