Esme Hammond, 66, A Prominent Socialite
Esme O'Brien Hammond, long a prominent member of New York society, died of pneumonia Monday at New York Hospital. She was 66 years and lived in Manhattan.
Mrs. Hammond was active in the Junior League and was, for 35 years, a member of the board of the Hewitt School, from which she graduated. She was the wife of John Hammond, the record producer and a former vice president of Columbia Records. An earlier marriage to Robert W. Sarnoff, a former chairman of NBC and the RCA Corporation, ended in divorce. They had a daughter, Rosita Sarnoff. Mrs. Hammond is survived by her daughter; two stepsons, Jason Hammond and John Hammond, and six grandchildren.
Burial will be private. A memorial service is planned for 3:30 P.M. next Wednesday at St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, East 76th Street and Lexington Avenue.
