About Estella E Smith
A copy of a family album received in 2013 from Tuddy Moore Nittinger states that Estella was "Widowed {when her husband Benjamin R. Smith passed away) with three young children in 1873, she served as Postmistress of Montoursville, PA from 1875-1889. A resourceful woman, she traveled by train with her daughters to San Francisco, California, and considered moving there. She returned home after an earthquake. She hired a young carpenter, Joseph C. Moore, to build a double house on Montour St. (across from the old school house) - that is how Annie {Estella's daughter} and Joe {Joseph C. Moore} met. The couple lived with Estella in that house when they were first married. Later they all moved to the brick house at 433 Broad Street where the children grew up and Estella lived until she died at the age of 82. She was owner of one of the first motor cars in Montoursville - never learned to drive - but always found a willing chauffeur."
