About Esther Susanna Constance Bailey

Found information via NAAIRS in the Cape Town Archives Repository showing that Esther, or "Connie", as she signed herself, must have married Dr Bailey after the death of her first husband, PA Myburgh.

All three children of her first marriage appear to have been born in Cape Town; Alexander is documented as being born in the suburb of Sea Point in Cape Town (wherer her parents lived too). It is thought that the family may have resided in Sea Point, but first husband, Philip, died in Kimberley 16 months after Vivian's birth, aged 37. It is not known if Esther/Connie and the children lived in Kimberley, or stayed in Sea Point. It seems that Philip died in debt and intestate.
After Philp's death, she married Dr Bailey.

Death certificate says widow, but doesn't mention surviving children: "South Africa, Cape Province, Civil Deaths, 1895-1972", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2QM-332W : 24 June 2016), Esther Susanah Constance Abercrombie Bailey, 1937. (See under Source tab.)

"Poor Mrs Bailey was knocked down by a motor car when posting a letter to Vera on a wet Sunday night and died in the ambulance on the way to Wynberg Hospital." Source: extract from the diaries of Lilian Elizabeth (Daisy) Young. (Vera was her daughter)
