"The WRITER Ford Herman Hueffer joined the British Army in 1915. In1916, his battalion took part in the battle of the Somme; he was injuredduring the heavy shelling and left with a permanently drooping lower lip. He met Stella Bowen when he was stationed at Redcar in Yorkshire and they began corresponding. In 1919 he changed his name to Ford Madox Ford. His major work of fiction, 'Parades End', was published in four parts between 1924 and1928. He thought his finest achievement to be the novel 'The Good Soldier' -1915 and he dedicated the 1928 edition of this work to Stella.
"After her parents' separation in 1928, their daughter Julia was cared for primarily by her mother, but regularly saw her father and spent summers with him.She had a bohemian-French upbringing and when she returned to England with her mother in 1933, she spoke only French.
Julia became a THEATRE DESIGNER and after her marriage to RolandLoewe and the birth of her son Julian David, she settled in California with her family.
She died of cancer in 1985 at the age of 65.
