She was a member of the Farm Bureau Kitchen Band in the 40's, treasurer of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in the 70's, received special membership from the U.M.W. in 1977, U.M.W. treasurer in the 80's, special membership of 2nd Century Women in 1991, member of the Ruth Circle, and an honorary member of the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary.

Esther Mae Nye, 88, of Charlotte died Oct. 29, 1996.

Mrs. Nye was born July 15, 1908, in Kankakee, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Lena (Hill) Gibbs. She married Harold Nye in 1933.

She was a bookkeeper for Farm bureau and for Community Oil, where she retired. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Kitchen Band in the 40's, treasurer of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in the 70's, received special membership from the U.M.W. in 1977, U.M.W. treasurer in the 80's, special membership of 2nd Century Women in 1991, member of the Ruth Circle, and an honorary member of the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (John) Ghere of Onondaga, and Martha (Charles) Goppert of Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren, Jean (Randy) Maiville, and Karen Ghere all of Onondaga, and Cheryl Goppert of Maui, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheryl in 1937 and her husband, Harold, in 1972.

Services were Nov. 1 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte.
