1841 Census: aged c.13 (born c.1828) with father Nathan at High Street, Shadwell, and his wife Abby (Abigail) and her siblings Godfrey (aged 6, born c.1835)), and Isabella (aged 3, born c.1838).

1851 Census: at 125 High Street, Shadwell, with widowed Abigail Phillips, but listed as her 'Niece'. This may suggest that her mother was 'Ella', who would therefore be her father's 1st wife; if so, this means her father married his first wife's sister - since Abigail's maiden name is given as 'HARRIS' on the surviving birth certificates of her children, then perhaps 'Ella' was also a Harris. When Ella married Nathan, her father's name was given as Solomon Zalman, so their father may appear elsewhere recorded as Solomon Harris. But the entry of the word 'niece' may simply be a mistake. Others there in 1851, listed in order as they appeared immediately under Abigail: Godfrey Phillips, son, aged 16, Cigar Maker; John Phillips, son, aged 14, Cigar Maker; Esther Phillips, niece, aged 23 [no profession given]; Isabella Phillips, daughter, aged 12, Scholar.
