Etheldred and Irving were married on 1 October 1912 in Geneva, Ontario County, New York. See The Buffalo Evening Times, Buffalo, N.Y., Thursday, October 3, 1912, page 3.
Etheldred was very active in the religious, social and cultural life of Geneva, New York and the collegiate activities at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (which are located along the shore of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region). She was president of Geneva's Community Chest, served on the Social Service League; was one of the founders of the Ontario County Tuberculosis and Public Health Association; was an officer and member of the Women's Auxiliary of the YMCA, the Geneva Girl Scouts, and other organizations. At the graduating class commencement of 1941 she and Irving received degrees of doctor of humane letters.
