About Eva R. Willis

Eva was the 4th child born to Maggie and Clell Richardson. She got a lot from them on Richardson Lane, but sold it and went to Louisville with her husband Covell Willis to find work. Eva and Covell had 3 children. Helen Louise, Phyllis Erlene and Morris Covell Jr. Those kids basically grew up in Louisville, though the older two remember their time in Frankfort well. Aunt Eva worked at a sewing factory till she retired. She worked sorting gloves at a factory that "reconditioned gloves"/per Sherman Jr. She and uncle Covell took dancing lessons by Arthur Murray and liked to go to dances to show off their skills. Aunt Eva crocheted, quilted and sewed. She loved bright colors, especially red. She picked out a red suit to be buried in. She loved cashew nuts and Wrigley Spearmint gum, which she "popped" a lot. She was a quiet sort of woman, that listened but said little. She and Covell spent many weekends in Stringtown at our home and also many holidays. We did her hair and nails a lot when she visited. Uncle Covell always requested lamb fries and cream gravy for supper. When we visited them in Louisville, uncle Covell made his famous chili with lots of "bloemer's concarne) in it......we ate it on a plate it was so thick. They lived on her parents lot in a trailer after retiring in Louisville. She and Covell lived a few years in Lawrenceburg in the trailer, till Covell died with a massive coronary. She didn't stay long after that and moved her trailer to Frankfort to be near her boyfriend, Shorty Ware. He later died too, but left her rights to live in his home till her death, which she did. She was laid out at "LeCompte Funeral Home" in Frankfort and buried in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery, alongside her husband Covell and daughter, Helen Louise.
