I found a Maria Staples who died in 1905, aged 67, in Poplar. East London. Fits with birth in 1838.

"Maria "was not recorded in the 1911 census. But a "Fanny" was. Birth: March1838 - Holbeach, England. Fanny was living with Eva and Norman in Dublin. She was 50 and had been married 32 years.; which matches with 1877 wedding.

And a Fanny Staples who died in March 1915, aged 78, at Camberwell. These all fit with her birthdate/age!

Also a Fanny Staples who died March 1890, aged 28 years, at St George, Hanover square. Maybe a daughter? She would have been born about 1862; so born when Fanny/Maria was 24. Or was she Walter's sister, and perhaps why he called his wife Maria, by her second name??
