Fear Baker (Robinson)

Fear Robinson, eldest surviving dau. of Isaac Robinson by his first wife Margaret Hanford, bapt. Jan. 26, 1644/5 at Barnstable, Mass. by Rev. John Lothrop.

Purportedly on Sept. 30, 1664 at an unstated place, Fear m. Samuel Baker, s. of Rev. Nicholas Baker of Hull, Mass. Samuel was bapt. Oct. 21, 1638 in Hingham, Mass. The writer cannot confirm by an extant record the purported date of Fear and Samuel's marriage. However, in the December 1664 will of Fear's maternal grand uncle, Timothy Hatherly of Scituate, Mass., Timothy left a bequest to "Fear Robinson now the wife of Samuel Baker."

John Baker, the first acknowledged child of Samuel and Fear, was b. Oct. 15, 1672, almost eight years after the marriage of his parents. It is the writer's belief circumstantial evidence indicates a namesake son Samuel and dau. Fear, b. before son John, may have been overlooked and not considered by researchers of either the Baker or Robinson family.

Samuel and Fear resided at Hull, Mass. until 1687 then relocated to Barnstable, Mass. Samuel was still living in Barnstable on Mar. 24, 1714/5 when he was appointed one of the town's fence viewers for the following year (the then Julian calendar year began on Mar. 25th). Unfortunately, the deaths of Fear Robinson and husband Samuel Baker are not of record and there is no record of a will for either of them.

The five recognized children of Samuel and Fear (Robinson) Baker are outlined in their father's memorial.
