About Ferdinand Rahter
Ferdinand Rahter died at Harrisburg on Saturday January 4 of pneumonia. He was visiting his brother Dr. Chas. Rahter of Harrisburg for several weeks and was taken to the Harrisburg Hospital for treatment, suffering a heavy cold. His parents moved from Lancaster County to a farm near Littlestown when the decedent was a boy and latter grew up in the county. His father Christian Rahter afterwards moved to Littlestown and carried on business of carriage building for a number of years. The decedent succeeded his father in the business, afterwards going to Harrisburg, then to Philadelphia, where he was engaged in the wholesale liquor business. Of late years he made his home in Baltimore being a traveling salesman for wholesale liquor houses. The funeral was on Monday of last week, internment being in the Harrisburg Cemetery along-side the graves of his parents. He was married to Catherine, a daughter of the late Rev. Jacob Sechler of Hanover [on August 11, 1859 in Littlestown], who survives with an only daughter, Mrs. [Anna Knowlton] Knights of Jersey City, N. J. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Mary Howard of Cumberland Township, Mrs. Charlotte Bieber of Philadelhia, Dr. Chas. Rahter of Harrisburg, Adolphus Rahter of Baltimore, David Rahter of Atlantic City and Benjamin Rahter, of Chicago. [Gettysburg Compiler, January 15, 1908].
