About Filomena Soares de Chaves
GEDCOM Note
This is my, Alcina de Sousa Bairos, maternal grandmother, Filomena Soares de Chaves.
When Filomena got married, her husband built them a new home to live in. This house was close to her mother's home in a place called Casas Velhas.
Filomena's sister in law, Ana Freitas Chaves became a United States citizen in 1962. She then petitioned for her brother Jose de Sousa and his family to join her. The petition was granted on December 16, 1966, and Filomena, Jose and their unmarried children (Jorge, Antonio, and Dinis) immigrated to the United States and settled in Mentone, CA.
Jose and Filomena's son, Jose Chaves Sousa had married in April of 1966 and was no longer eligible to go to the United States with his father. The married children (Maria and Jose) of Jose de Sousa took an alternate path and immigrated to Canada.
Filomena has not become a US citizen.
