About Florence C. Best
from "A History of the Andrew Moore Family of Jefferson County, Pennsylvania", compiled by Jude Fischer, 1984.
Florence learned dressmaking from her sister, Margaret, who had learned from their mother, Fanny. According to the 1880 census, Florence, age 20,along with her sister Maggie, age 26, and their mother, Fannie, age 63, were listed as dressmakers in Winslow twp, Jefferson Co, PA.
Florence later learned millinery and had a millinery and dressmaking shop in Reynoldsville, PA. The money used for the shop was from the estate of her grandfather, John William Best, Sr.. (As her father was dead, his children inherited his share of the estate.) Florence used her portion; Alex gave his portion to their mother, who gave it to Florence for her shop. She later sold this store and opened another in Kittanning or New Kensington, PA. However, after a few years, her failing health forced her to close that shop.
Florence did not marry.
