About Florence Resnick
She loved to sing and dance. She had a beautiful singing voice and could play the piano by ear. She was a wise friend, a devoted mother and grandmother. She volunteered in hospitals with patients, and as a social co-ordinator for the organizations she belonged to, writing cards to those in need of comfort during sickness or times of loss. A dollar was paid to Ort for every card she wrote because she was such a good writer. Living at her home for short periods when I was young are some of my fondest memories. She fed the birds daily from her Brooklyn apartment kitchen window. Pickled lox and pickled herring were her specialties, and she made a mean cabbage soup. She was generous with her love and understanding, and as one of my friends who met her said, she was a spitfire - full of life to the very end. It was impossible for anyone to guess her age, with her beautiful skin and high energy she looked and acted far younger than that she was. She was known for rousing the the elders in her circle to dance. She had some troubling times in her life, some hard knocks, yet that didn't stop her from celebrating life. What a blessing it was to have her as my precious Nanny.
