About Fr. Herbert Linenberger

Tiffin, Ohio -- The Rev. Herbert Linenberger, 69, a Victoria native, died Tuesday from injuries received when he was struck by a truck in Tiffin.

He was born March 9, 1909 in Victoria, the son of Herman J. and Anna Maria Dreiling Linenberger.

On Sept. 9, 1924 he became a student for the priesthood at the Society of the Precious Blood in Burkettsville, Ohio. He was ordained May 12, 1935. He taught at St. Charles Seminary in Cathagena, Ohio, until he was elected a Moderator General of the Precious Blood Seminary in Rome, where he served from 1959 to 1971.

In 1960, during the reign of Pope John XXIII, he was a member of the Second Vatican Council and serviced until 1955 at Vatican City. In Sept. 1971, he returned to the US and served in Columbus, Ohio. Later he became chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, Ohio, where he served until his death.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Helen L. Hall, Hutchinson, Mrs. Hattie Pundsack, Great Bend, Mrs. Lotetta Brungardt, Wichita, and Mrs. Clara Sellers, San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral services were Thursday morning in Tiffin, Ohio, and will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Seminary, Carthagena, Ohio.
