Frances J. McGrady on the 1850 Georgia census is noted as being born in 1847, or as being 3 years old on the 1850 census. Frances J. McGrady, wife of Strother Hawkins and mother of Laura Jane, Sarah Ashly, Newton Eldridge, and Randolph could not have been born in 1847. This would have made her 11 years old when she gave birth to my husband's great-grandmother, Laura Jane. Also, Frances is noted on Laura's 1900 census as being born in Kentucky. Newton, Laura's brother, noted his mother Frances as being born in Virginia. Nowhere have they noted their mother Frances as being born in Georgia.
