About Francis Lorenzo Gibbons

DIED

GIBBONS.--In this city, August 9th, 1886, at 4:30 p.m. Francis L. Gibbons. Funeral takes place tomorrow at the Second Ward meetinghouse at 2 p.m. Friends are invited.
Francis L. Gibbons, son of John A. R. Gibbons and Fanny Roby, was born at Donnend, Parish of Chieveley, Berks, England, November 5th, 1831. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, December 28th, 1848, in Glamorghanshire, South Wales. He was ordained a Priest, March 28th, 1851, and received the office of an Elder October 30th, of the same year. In 1868 he came to Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City August 19th, and three days after he came to Ogden, which latter place he made his home. In 1872 he went through the house of the Lord and received the blessings of a faithful servant of God, and in April, 27th, 1873, he was ordained a Seventy by Elder Samuel Glasgow, and at the time of his death he was a faithful member of the 76th Quorum of Seventies.
In the fall of '82 he went on a mission to England. He performed his labors faithfully, and returned to Utah in 1884.

CHILLS AND FEVER

The other event that has taken many by surprise, and caused deep regret in this neighborhood, is the demise of Elder Francis L. Gibbons, in the 55th year of his age. He has for nearly two years been nightwatchman at the Utah Central Railroad Depot in this city.
Indeed he has been an employe of that company from the time the line was opened till the present, except two years, during which time he filled a successful MISSION TO ENGLAND
About two weeks since he took cold and was brought down with typhoid fever, which resulted fatally.
 * * * well known and much respected for [his] fidelity to God and His cause. [He] died in the Lord--he rest from his labors here--but his works will follow him. * * *
